There are all sorts of recipes out there for winter syrups and we have collected a few of our favorites. They are surprisingly easy to make and can brighten up any holiday cocktail. Winter Spice Syrup
Winter Spice syrup is perfect for adding to your hot toddies, morning coffee, cocoa, or hot chocolate. It includes ingredients such as cinnamon sticks, cloves, ginger root, star anise, and cardamom pods. Feel free to adjust any of these according to your taste preferences!
Ingredients:
- 1⁄2 cup sugar
- 1⁄2 cup water
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- cloves
- cardamon pods
- star anise
- peppercorns
- orange peel
- ginger
Method:
In a small pot, combine the sugar and the water. Bring to a simmer and stir until sugar dissolves. Add the spices and simmer for 10 minutes. Then remove from the heat and let the syrup cool to a room temperature.
Strain the syrup into a pitcher or glass measuring cup. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
Pomegranate Syrup
This syrup is one of the best ingredients for your homemade cocktails and mocktails. It marries nicely with vodka, gin, and botanical spirits.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of pomegranate juice
- 1 cup of sugar
Method:
Combine pomegranate juice with granulated sugar in a saucepan over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved. Bring it to a boil then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes before removing from heat. Let cool completely before storing in an airtight container at room temperature (or refrigerating).
Rosemary & Cloves Syrup

Ingredients:
- 1⁄2 cup sugar
- 1⁄2 cup water
- 50ml - lemon juice
- 3 sprigs of fresh rosemary
- 30 gr. of whole cloves
Method:
Pour the ingredients into a saucepan over low heat and stir until sugar dissolves. Bring it to a boil and remove from the heat. Let the syrup cool to a room temperature. Strain into a jar and store in the refrigerator until use.
Cranberry Syrup
The tart flavor and vibrant red color makes cranberry syrup a delicious cocktail ingredient. It can elevate your vodka soda, add some fresh notes to gin drinks and can be used in baked goods and frostings.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1⁄2 cup cranberries (fresh or frozen)
Method:
Combine cranberries, water, and sugar in a saucepan and bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Then reduce heat to medium-low and boil for 10 more minutes. Let the syrup cool, strain into a jar and store in the refrigerator.
Chocolate Simple Syrup
If you're looking for a decadent yet simple way to jazz up your next cup of coffee, hot chocolate, or cocktail, this recipe is exactly what you need. Chocolate simple syrup perfectly complement dark spirits like whisky, rum, and tequila.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 30 unsweetened cocoa powder
Method:
Pour the ingredients into a small saucepan and cook over medium heat. Stir continuously until the mixture starts to boil. Then remove the syrup from heat and let it cool to room temperature. Pour into a jar and store in the refrigerator.
