How to Drink Vermouth: 4 Ways to Enjoy Vermouth-Lassou

As we mentioned a couple of blog posts ago, a bottle or two of vermouth is the essential item to have in your home bar. Don't think of vermouth in the Martini context only, because it is incredibly versatile that can be paired with literally all kinds of spirits and mixers. Today we will talk about four tempting ways to enjoy vermouth. 

Neat on the Rocks 

Vermouth is an outstanding aperitif and it is often enjoyed neat on the rocks. This style of drinking vermouth is incredibly popular in Italy, Spain, and France. They usually garnish a glass of vermouth with a lemon twist (white vermouth) or an orange twist (red vermouth). Try it, don't forget to add a few ice cubes and relax, it's siesta time! By the way, you can always complement your vermouth with some appetizers. Choose pickles, shellfish or young cheese for a delightful marriage of sweet, bitter, and savory tastes. 

Low-ABV Spritz

This is an easy and delicious way to sip the vermouth. Treat yourself with a light and refreshing spritz because you deserve it. Take 60ml of dry vermouth and 120ml of soda or tonic. Pour over ice and garnish with grapefruit or orange wheel. For extra fruity pleasure, add muddled strawberries and enjoy!

Pair with Other Spirits

Again, vermouth is an incredibly friendly wine as it goes well with all kinds spirits. Try mixing it with red bitters, whisky, gin, vodka, tequila — choose the combination that makes your mouth water.

Sherry Negroni
Next time you are in a Negroni mood, try to substitute gin with a nice portion of Fino sherry for softness and delightful citrus tone. It's a perfect aperitif cocktail or can be drunk anytime. Mix equal parts of sherry, Campari and sweet vermouth, shake it and pour over ice, garnish with a lemon twist. 

Manhattan
If you're a whisky fan, you will definitely enjoy this cocktail. Mix  1 part of red vermouth, 2 parts of single malt whisky, 2 dashes of angostura bitter, and 5ml of maraschino liqueur with ice in a mixing glass. Strain into a cocktail glass and serve with a maraschino cherry and a twist of lemon. 

Mixed with Other Vermouths

All vermouths have various flavor profiles which work great together. A mix of sweet and dry vermouths is a classical combination. It is quite complex but also well-balanced pairing.  Add a dash of maraschino liqueur or a splash of soda and enjoy.
